Scan or search for food product facts and see if there are any nutritional or allergy warnings. You can filter your search by removing Junkfood, high sodium foods, or even common allergens with the "Advanced" button.
Scanner tip: A red line will display when a barcode has been successfully scanned. Only barcodes in the USDA FoodData Central database will load an information page. Try rotating the barcode and make sure it is in focus if you are having difficulty getting a scan.

Litfood rates food items just like mom taught you - by looking at the ingredients! If Litfood sees sugars or salt near the top of the ingredients list of a food item, then it will probably get flagged as Junkfood or high in sodium. Litfood also looks for a large list of known allergens in the ingredients to alert you if there is anything you need to know about.
High Junkfood Rating: Sugars or sweeteners are found in first quarter of the ingredients list. Also, certain preservatives or artificial flavors are found in the ingredients list.
Probable Junkfood: Sugars or sweeteners are found in first half of the ingredients list.
High Sodium Rating: Salt or other sodium ingredients are found in the first quarter of the ingredients list.
May Be High in Sodium: Salt or other sodium ingredients are found in the first half of the ingredients list.
Contains Potential Allergens: keywords that correspond to peanut, tree nut, shellfish, egg, milk, fish, wheat, or soy allergies were found in the ingredients list
